Building a Brighter Future Through Robotics
Inside the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center, robotics is giving young people an opportunity to learn through experimentation. Participants write code, operate robots, encounter problems and make adjustments until their ideas begin to work.
The program is facilitated through a collaboration involving NorthShore Robotics, the detention center and Just One Voice. NorthShore Robotics teaches programming, design, troubleshooting and the engineering process through hands-on STEAM education. At the detention center, participants use VEX robotics technology to develop coding, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
Just One Voice helps extend the program’s impact beyond the robotics lessons. Its role includes connecting participants with educational resources, professional pathways and practical support for goals such as continuing their education and obtaining driver’s licenses following release.
Together, the partners are creating a learning environment where mistakes become part of the process rather than the end of the story. Every challenge offers another opportunity to think critically, try again and begin imagining a more productive future.
